Finish one core army
Upgrade the main damage troop, tanks and support used together in your farming, war or CWL composition.
This CoC troop max levels guide shows the highest troop level available at every Town Hall from TH1 to TH18. Use the Town Hall selector or full comparison tables to check permanent Elixir troops, Dark Elixir troops and the Laboratory level required at each stage. The guide also shows new unlocks, higher caps after a Town Hall upgrade and a practical research-priority framework.

Select your Town Hall to see only the permanent troops available there. Each result shows the highest research level at that TH, plus a NEW, +1 or +2 marker when the troop changes from the previous Town Hall.
This table covers the permanent troops trained from the regular Barracks. Scroll sideways on mobile. Linked troop names open the detailed CocWarBase guide where one is already available.

Dark Elixir troops begin at TH7. Their caps do not always rise at every new Town Hall, so the full progression table is the safest way to check what is actually available before starting another upgrade.

TH18 max troop levels include the newest cap increases across both Elixir and Dark Elixir armies. Meteor Golem unlocks at TH17 and reaches level 3 at TH18; Thrower and Ruin Witch reach level 4, while Furnace remains level 4. Use this compact table for the newest high-Town-Hall troops, then check the complete tables for every cap.

Troop research is gated by the Laboratory, but Laboratory level and troop level are different values. TH1 and TH2 have no Laboratory; from TH3 onward it rises from level 1 through level 16 at TH18. The troop tables show each individual cap.

Super Troops are not listed here. This page is for permanent Home Village troop research only. Heroes, Pets, Spells and Siege Machines use their own progression systems and belong in separate max-level guides.
For practical upgrade planning, check your current army first. A troop being available at a higher level does not mean it needs to jump ahead of the army you actually use for farming, war or CWL.
Use this as a pre-upgrade checklist. “Higher caps” counts troops whose maximum research level rises compared with the previous Town Hall; “new troops” counts permanent troops that become available for the first time. Open the finder above for exact levels.

Counts are calculated from the same 32-troop dataset used by the finder and full tables, so the quick answer and detailed reference stay synchronized.
Maximum level is a reference point, not a universal upgrade order. Start with a complete army that you use every day, then improve flexible support troops and donation value. This keeps the Laboratory useful throughout the Town Hall instead of scattering upgrades across unrelated armies.
Upgrade the main damage troop, tanks and support used together in your farming, war or CWL composition.
Prioritize funnel, wall access, cleanup and support troops that appear across several armies.
Add a contrasting air or ground option so balance changes and base layouts do not leave you with one answer.
Short upgrades and frequently donated troops are sensible fillers while saving resources for a larger priority.
Permanent Home Village Elixir and Dark Elixir troops, their unlock Town Hall, maximum research level, and Laboratory cap.
Heroes, Pets, Spells, Siege Machines, temporary event troops and Super Troop boosted forms. Those systems need separate guides.
Cross-check the tables against in-game Laboratory availability and official update notes whenever a balance or content update adds levels.
Recheck TH18 first after major updates, then review every lower Town Hall affected by unlock or Laboratory changes.
No. The Laboratory level unlocks research, but each troop has its own level sequence. Use the Town Hall finder for the troop cap and the Laboratory table to confirm the research building requirement.
Not every troop receives research at every Town Hall. A repeated number in the comparison table means its permanent cap is unchanged for that TH.
Yes. Some progression steps contain a two-level jump. The “+2” badge in the finder and the upgrade-delta table make those heavier research steps visible.
No. The tables track permanent base-troop research. A Super Troop is a temporary powered form and is intentionally excluded from the 32-troop count.
Not always. Maxing everything is a completionist choice. For progression, cover your main farming and war armies, essential support troops, and the next Town Hall’s added Laboratory workload before deciding.
Review official release notes for new troop levels or unlock changes, confirm them in the in-game Laboratory, then revisit the TH18 row and any lower Town Hall named in the update.
