Totem Thrower: enjoy the chaos, but treat it as temporary
The Totem Thrower is a six-tile-range seasonal troop that hits ground targets. Its first throw, then every fourth throw, sends out a cursed totem: the impact stuns and a Tiny Totem decoy buys a little time before disappearing. The troop eventually loses health and self-destructs, which makes it a short-lived tool rather than a troop to build an army around.

Plan the entry with air coverage elsewhere.

Put something sturdier in front and give the Thrower a clear lane. The fun is in the crowd control; the mistake is treating a temporary troop as if it has to carry the whole attack.
Portal Pendant is the October reward with staying power
The Portal Pendant is Epic Equipment for the Minion Prince. The key difference from the Totem Thrower is permanence: the troop belongs to the event window, while the equipment remains part of the Prince’s loadout after Portal Panic ends. That makes the Medal Event the one deadline I would put on the calendar first.
Open the Medal Event early
Check the reward track and start collecting Sour Elixir once it goes live on 8 October. Waiting until the final stretch turns a calm event into a grind.
Keep the Trader deadline in view
The event itself finishes on 25 October, with the Trader window ending on 27 October. Do not leave the Rift Medal spend for the final hour.
Use the boost days to test it
The Portal Pendant boost runs from 20 to 25 October for eligible Town Halls. That is the practical window for seeing whether it fits the way you use the Minion Prince.
